Words Matter

In the biblical story of creation, God speaks the world into being. If we take nothing else from that account, note that words matter.

Words have the power to create the world we inhabit.

Many of us felt an enormous sense of relief when a new administration moved into the White House. Others of us did not. And all of us are talking about it. The words we use as we speak about it are shaping the world we share together. In the few short days since the Inauguration I’ve heard or read numerous examples of the following: “Well, the ________________ (fill-in-the-blank of the political party you typically vilify) are at it again. No surprise there.” Words that had a familiar ring to them because I’ve said them myself. More than once

Words have the power to create the world we inhabit.

We have become fluent in the language of us vs them, blame, and accusation, and as a result, we are living in a world of our own making.

Words have the power to create the world we inhabit.

If we want a different world, one place to start is with our words.
