The morning glories and the sunflowers turn naturally toward the light, but we have to be taught, it seems.
~Richard Rohr
They close up tight at night.
It is dark, and even they know better than to live in the dark.
But then.
Then the sun comes up.
Then the sun comes up as it has done every day for billions of years.
And then they know.
They know that it is time to open themselves up and turn toward the light.
The Yellow Salsify is considered an invasive weed in many areas. A nuisance. Something that doesn’t belong.
And yet.
This simple little flower knows what we humans seem to so easily forget.
We are meant to live in the light.
We are meant to open ourselves up, and turn toward the light.
